Even the famous writer Stendhal fell in love with Varese and the surrounding lakes, so much so that he wrote:
Magnificent view! At sunset you could see seven lakes. Believe me, you can travel all over France and Germany, but you will never experience similar sensations. Finally my spirit, tormented by love for a beauty too beautiful, has found something in which there is nothing to blame: the landscape between Laveno and Varese.
